Just like the lore, at Hydra, we follow a movement philosophy which means we look to empower our clients with the knowledge they need to reach the peak of their health and maintain it for years to come. We help them gain a better understanding of their bodies, show them how to use them in different ways by teaching them to handstand, build upper body strength and lift weights.
Our classes look very different from pilates, body-pump, bootcamp or any other group exercise class you might have taken previously. Our small classes mean that we can tailor everything to each student's needs. While you'll be able to push your limits in new and fun ways, we look after you while you're working so that you don't come away from your training with more injuries than you started with, but feeling more in tune with yourself.
Anyone can train with us as our training program has been designed for people of all ages and abilities. This approach challenges you at your current level of fitness and progresses you to achieve a greater level of conditioning. The only limitation is what you put on yourself.
Our training is movement focussed. We work on developing skills, building strength and coordination. Our classes are small. Our coaches know each of our members and tailor each class accordingly, so that each person can work at their own level, but still benefit from the supportive community environment.
Other gyms may not offer Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and other modalities. Some programs are based on body weight only. The experience and skill level of coaches and trainers also varies. At other gyms you pay for someone (or even worse a TV) to tell you what to do. At Hydra, we show you what and how. Choose what best fits you and your goals.
We are open every day of the week. Check out our schedule here. If you are interested in personal training, we are able to accommodate your schedule. Contact us today to set up a complimentary session.
Yes We do have a shower and two toilets at the gym.
There is ample on street parking on Victoria Street and surrounding streets.
You can reach out to our support team anytime during your journey. We're here to ensure your travel experience is smooth and enjoyable.
Immediately, once you start with us you will never work out any other way.
No, unlike bodybuilders, who train in a more isolated, specific way, we train using functional movements, movements that your body was designed to do. Of course, if you have a particular training goal, let us know, and we can help you get there. Also and more importantly, getting bigger or smaller has more to do how you eat than what you train.
We are pretty flexible, so get in touch and let us know when you can make it down.
All our memberships have a 30 day cancellation notice period. You are not locked in to any long term periods. Our classes, when attending, have a 10 hr cancellation policy i.e. if you have booked in for 6am class, you can cancel your booking before 8pm the previous day. Cancelling the class inside the lockout period will forfeit the class, unless approved otherwise by us.
I started Hydra Movement in 2010 as part of my personal training business out of a friends gym and then slowly grew it to our first gym space in 2012. From there the gym has grown leaps and bounds and it has not stopped being anything but a haven for strength and conditioning, gymnastics strength training, handstands and olympic lifting. In 2022, Hydra Movement became an official Weightlifting club also.
Onwards and upwards, actually scratch that, Hail Hydra!

I am a critical care trained registered nurse + Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher.
Many years ago, I discovered that yoga complemented other sports I was passionate about. After completing my yoga teacher training in India, I am enthusiastic about sharing its benefits. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a fast-paced, flowing series of sequential postures.
During class, I will guide you through each posture, with a strong emphasis on strength, mobility + alignment, while using the breath to link movement.

Assisting people to build their skills and connect to the movement of their bodies is something I enjoy.
Whether it be heavy strength work, slow energy movement and mobility or just wanting to come in and move your body, this is the space for you to get the assistance you want.
Evidence-based practice is extremely important to me. I keep up with scientific literature in various fields, sharpening my skills so I can deliver a client centred, evidence-based approach. As a neurodivergent person (ADHD), I place great importance on inclusivity and creating a safe space for everyone to train in.
